How did I come up with the name Pickle Performance you ask? Well in 2018 my wife and I were drinking some wine by the fire pit and we started talking about our bucket lists. I mentioned that it would be really cool to make a viral video. She looked at me and said, “Oh yeah, about what?” I looked her dead in the eyes and replied, “pickles.” After a few glasses of wine, I started talking in a funny voice while naming off all different types of pickles. (Think of Bubba from Forest Gump but with pickles) We sent the video to a few close friends and we were all dying laughing. That’s when the character, Steve Dill, was born. While nothing actually went viral, I did get some pretty good views and lots of good laughs with friends and family. During the time I was making the Steve Dill videos, I was also building my best bud Justin’s, twin-turbo 2015 Mustang. Once the car finally hit the street and track, people quickly gained interest. When they would ask who built the car, Justin would always say, “It was built by Pickle.” And once the car community got a hold of the Steve Dill videos, Pickle quickly became my nickname. Soon after, I started getting other people who wanted me to build their cars, so I started taking on 1-2 cars at a time. I would spend most of my nights and weekends in the garage (off jack stands and homemade wooden blocks) while still working full time as a Project Manger, at a major salad processor.
On December 20, 2019, I decided to take the leap of faith and venture off on my own, making Pickle Performance my full-time job. Initially, I continued to work out of my 2-car garage off jack stands, and I would also go to some of my buddies' shops to help out, if I had availability. On February 14th 2020, I signed the lease for my first space. It was a little 900sqft shop tucked away off of Boyd Blvd, in Rowlett. I started out with one lift and a part time technician-Daniel, who had been helping me out on weekends when I was still working in the garage. After three months, I was able to bring Daniel on full time with Pickle Performance.
I met Danny when I was working for corporate America. He was driving a 2011 Mustang GT, so naturally we hit it off. I worked first shift and Danny was on second, so when our shifts overlapped, we would always talk about cars. I quickly learned that Danny was very mechanically inclined, so I invited him over to the house to help on one of my projects. His willingness to learn and the passion that he had for the builds, was absolutely amazing! In April 2020 I brought Danny on as my first full time tech and he has been the backbone of Pickle Performance ever since.
Towards the end of summer 2020 Danny and I, were feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work that we had at the shop, so we decided it was time to hire a part time technician. After interviewing many applicants, we decided that Martin seemed like a good fit for our team. Martin came in very eager to learn and always has an all-around amazing attitude. In March 2021, Martin became the second full time tech for Pickle Performance. Martin has an amazing attention to details and is constantly challenging himself to improve on every build. He is also our go to for troubleshooting!
